In our society today it is easy to read on the internet or see on TV about a woman that has been physically abused by her husband or her boyfriend that is a professional athlete. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to most women between the ages of fifteen and forty-four in the United States, that is more than car accidents, muggings, and even rapes combined. ââ¬Å"Each year an estimated 2 million to 4 million woman in the United States are abused by their male partners. Many of them are severely physically assaulted, and thousands are killedâ⬠(www.mayoclinic.com). Statistics such as these are phenomenal .Domestic Violence is not only characterized by physical acts of violence but as well as psychological abuse, it also occurs in all economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds. ââ¬Å"Domestic violence is the victimization of a person with whom the abuser has or has had an intimate, romantic or spousal relationshipâ⬠(Barkley, Lynn, vol. 2, No. 7). There are man y different types of domestic violence that are used such as hitting, kicking, strangulation and even abuse during pregnancy. In extreme cases, anything can become a weapon when it is used to inflict pain such as guns and knives are used as well as sexual assaults.
